Student Teaching Week 2: An Afterthought

Well, my second week is now behind me, and the classroom has a really different feel. I am currently teaching three periods of science, but none of the two math periods. I know the names of 2/3 of my students now (I know everyone in 1st block, nearly the entire class in 2nd, and almost none in the 5th hour.

I spent several hours at the Black Cat Coffee House today grading 2 labs and a review assignment. I really am amazed at the diversity of answers. Some students really get it, and others just don’t… at all. But those two groups are the extreems, most students partially get the material, but seem to entirely lack the ability to communicate what they know. This may be due to the short attention span, as many of them left off not only in the middle of an idea or sentance, but in the middle of words!

Next week we are taking the entire 6th grade on an all day long skiing trip. This should be exciting, and it will make friday (when I am teaching all day with a sub sitting in the corner) an easier day, as the students will be quite tired (I hope.)

Well, more next week.
