Student Teaching Week 3: The Middle School Ski Trip
Today was the 6th Grade Ski Trip, and I have to admit that I was just about as stoked for it as the kids were. The morning went well, and the kids were excited as I was told to bring them to the first bus in line, which I later found out was not really the first bus, as it had pulled up in front of our bus group. After moving my class to the correct bus, and a bit of embarrassment, the trip was underway, and it really was a great day on the slopes.
The weather was perfect, hovering right under freezing with a great sunshine the whole time. The only snow we saw falling was the snow on the kids, and boy did they fall a lot. It was great to see the students working so hard, as probably 100 of the 137 had never been skiing before. One student, who couldn’t even manage to get up the tow rope, was so determined, that he walked up the hill just to ski for a few seconds; he did this over and over again, it was very satisfying to watch. Another student spent the entire day building up to going down the bunny hill alone on his last ski of the day. I am so very proud of these kids.
Somehow though, I am more tired than they are. Go figure.

That’s awesome, Dan! I’m glad you had a lot of fun and there were not huge accidents that you had to deal with. You’re really doing well. You’re going to make a great teacher.

I guess you didn’t get to ski that day, but watching “your” children may have been even more fun. Did you go to the Porkies?

No, we went to Mt. Velhalla (I am really guessing on that spelling), 45 minutes away from the school.
