Em Dash QuickTag For Wordpress
I noticed a while ago that there are two forms of punctuation that I like to use in my writing, the semicolon and th em dash (—). Semicolon is an easy one, because it is easily recognized in the standard character set, the em dash is another story altogether! Here I will show you how to add an em dash to your WP Quicktags in less than a minute (file transfer included!)
Step 1
The first thing you need to do is download a copy of your quicktags.js file from the wp-admin folder of your WP install. Make a copy of it on your hard disk now so you have an original to go back to in case you mess something up.
Step 2
Open it up in your favorite text editor. BBEdit on a Mac, or Notepad on a PC (though I use Crimson Editor). Go to the very bottom of the page, and add this to it after a line of blank code:
edButtons[edButtons.length] = new edButton('emdash'
,'Em Dash'
,'—'
,''
,''
);
Step 3
Upload your modified copy of your quicktags.js file to the wp-admin folder of your WP install.
Step 4
Log in and enjoy it!
Conclusion
So there you have it! A brand new WP QuickTag. You can add new ones just like it for any command you want!
You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
