Student Teaching: First Thoughts at the High School
Well, I am 2 days into my student teaching at the high school. It is a real shock to me. My cooperating teacher is great, but at the same time very different than what I am used to. I am finding it difficult adjusting to the environment. I wish it was my classroom, I really hate being a guest in another classroom. What I have seen so far is very good, and I am sure I will do wonders here and learn a lot from Bruce.
High school students are much more laid back and low energy. Classroom management, which was the hardest part of my middle school experience, should be a breeze here. Motivating students should be ok too, since they almost all seem to care about their grades by this point. I am also very excited to teach about biology for once, even though extending myself into other areas has been a fun adventure. Now I really have to remember to save everything for my future teaching positions. I am not off to a good start, I already lost the first pair of assignments that I am handing out.
I am really looking forward to taking the helm, so to speak, but I know it is best if I wait a little longer and observe first.
