Student Teaching: Rushing to the End
Well, time is running short, with a month left of classes I have no clue how we are going to get through the rest of the chapters that are needed. I am covering all of the Phylum Arthropoda (which includes insects and other creatures with exoskeletons) in a single block class period… needless to say that is not nearly enough time. The upshot is that we will quickly get to more dissections.
Yesterday, and some of today, we did earth worm dissections. It went really well, and I am looking forward to our fresh fish dissection on tuesday. I am a bit surprised that we get to do a third dissection though, this time of a rat. Seems a bit overboard. The upshot of all this is that I do get to spend an entire week on evolution.
I was observed today by my professor, and it was a glowing report. I really feel much more at home at the high school than I do at the middle school (not to say I don’t enjoy myself there too). I can hardly wait until I have truly my own classroom, where I can run things as I feel I should to more of an extent. Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of freedom in the class on what and how I teach, but there are some clear boundries that I stay within.
