Trackback Spam

It would seem that spammers are getting even more tricky. Today I noticed my first trackback spam.

I guess when I upgrade Wordpress and apply a new theme (long over due) I won’t allow trackbacks to be posted in the comments. Such a shame, spammers are really ruining the internet in every possible way.

Spam sucks. I get spam comments all the time on my blog. Icky.

It is icky. I hadn’t seen trackback spam before, but with the advent of the rel=”nofollow” attribute, I can see how they would want to try new realms. Though less blogs put trackbacks on the page, the ones that do seldome implement nofollow.

Now what I would like to understand is this stupid referrer spam!

If you aren’t running it yet, it may do ya well to check out Spam Karma 2 for Wordpress. I literally haven’t seen a single spam comment / trackback / pingback since I’ve installed it. It takes a multi-pronged approach that utilizes javascript payloads, page load timers, content parsers and all sorts of other hoodaddies to assigna karma point value to each comment. If the point value exceeds your threshold, it’s toast.

    Hiighly recommended.

I haven’t tried it, but I will look into it. Akismet spam used to work well, but it has failed me a lot recently. Perhaps it is time to upgrade.

    Edit: Upgraded. Hope it works.

Well, I have to say it worked great! I haven’t had any trackback spam get through (at least as far as wordpress is concerned.) It also worked great on comment spam!
